Don't let the #1 Cause of Divorce Ruin You Marriage

Can Christians Get Married After Divorce?

Yes, Christians can get married after divorce. However, the topic of divorce and remarriage within the Christian faith is a complex and often debated one. The answer to this question is not a simple “yes” or “no,” as it depends on various factors and interpretations of biblical teachings.

In the New Testament, Jesus addresses the issue of divorce in Matthew 19:3-9. He states that divorce was allowed in the Old Testament due to the hardness of people’s hearts, but from the beginning, God’s plan for marriage was for it to be a lifelong commitment.

Jesus goes on to say that anyone who divorces their spouse, except for cases of sexual immorality, and marries another commits adultery.

This exception clause, often referred to as the “unfaithfulness exception,” is where much of the debate surrounding divorce and remarriage in Christianity stems from. Some interpret this clause as allowing for divorce and subsequent remarriage in cases of infidelity, while others believe it should be understood more broadly.

The apostle Paul also addresses the issue of divorce in 1 Corinthians 7:10-16. He advises that if a believer is married to an unbelieving spouse who wants to leave, the believer should let them go.

In such cases, the believer is not bound by the marriage and is free to remarry. However, Paul also encourages believers to seek reconciliation and to remain married if possible.

It is important to note that while divorce is allowed in certain circumstances, it is not something that should be taken lightly.

Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, and divorce should only be sought as a last resort when all efforts at reconciliation have been exhausted.

Furthermore, Christians are called to approach the issue of divorce with grace and compassion.

Divorce can be a painful and difficult experience for all parties involved, and it is important to provide support and guidance to those going through it.

In conclusion, Christians can get married after divorce, but it is a complex issue that requires careful consideration and adherence to God’s word.

The decision to remarry should be made prayerfully and with guidance from the Holy Spirit.

It is also important to remember that God’s plan for marriage is for it to be a lifelong commitment, and divorce should only be considered in cases of sexual immorality or in situations where reconciliation is not possible.
