How Do You Find The Perfect Person To Marry?
“People keep asking, ‘How do I find the perfect person?’ Here’s the truth—you don’t. Because the perfect person doesn’t exist. And even if they did, how would you even know when you found them?
See, in the Bible, the word perfect doesn’t mean flawless. The Greek word teleios, like in Matthew 5:48 when Jesus says, ‘Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect,’ means whole, mature, complete. It’s not about never failing—it’s about growing into wholeness.
That means marriage was never designed to be about finding a flawless, compatible partner who checks every box on your list. Because lists change. People change. And if marriage is built only on compatibility, then what happens when you or your spouse aren’t compatible anymore?
God’s design is better. Marriage is about covenant. Two imperfect people, committing themselves to God and to each other, walking toward wholeness together. That’s why Genesis 2:24 says, ‘the two shall become one flesh.’ Not ‘the two shall find their perfect match,’ but ‘the two shall grow into oneness.’
So here’s the challenge: stop chasing the perfect person. Start becoming a whole person. Be the kind of husband—or wife—who leans into covenant love, not checklist love. Because compatibility might start the spark, but covenant is what turns you into the kind of character who can keep the fire burning.”
